If you’re new to the tribe, then first let me tell you about the
songwriting contest I entered recently.
Back in June I entered 3 of my worship songs into a songwriting
contest that was being held by the website Worship the Rock. This
is a Worship Leader’s resource site. The results were just
announced this week!
I will tell you how I did in just a moment, but first let me share
some other really exciting news.
In the past couple of weeks I’ve been getting around and teaching
my new songs to a couple of the ministry centers in the Chicago
Church of Christ. I mentioned that last week, and this week I have
more video testimonials of how people were impacted by these songs.

Okay, now, on to those contest results!
So, I did not make the top 3…
Nor did I make the top 10…
Nor did I even make it in to the top 25.
But, here’s some other facts:
* It took Edison 1000 attempts to invent the lightbulb
* WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th attempt
* Colonel Sanders was turned away 1009 times
* Rovio produced 51 games that failed before creating Angry Birds
* J.K. Rowling was turned down by 12 publishing houses
Here’s the truth…or, the troof (if you’re “Happy”)…
It wasn’t too long ago that I didn’t think I could write lyrics at
all. Writing lyrics was the most difficult thing in the world to
me. I never thought I’d be able to write a “serious” song.
I didn’t let that stop me. I kept on persevering and now I am
teaching my songs to hundreds of people! My goal is to reach
millions of people with my songs.
This was the first song contest I’ve ever entered…but I entered
it. I went from not thinking I could write a song to entering 3 of
my songs in a contest.
Why am I telling you this?
My goal is to inspire you. My hope is that this story will stir
within you the belief that you can take risks and grow…even if
you feel like your time is past, like your ship has sailed.
