This past week my wife called on her way home from work asking if I wanted her to pick up some dinner. I told her that I could really go for a cheeseburger. When she asked me where I’d like her to stop, I said I didn’t know. I figured I’d leave that up to her.
All I know is that I was super hungry and really looking forward to eating dinner as soon as she got home!
You can imagine my surprise, then, when she got home…and had no food with her!
Since I wasn’t clear about where I wanted a burger from…I didn’t get one. 😞
I thought this story was a great way of illustrating that, if you’re not very clear about what you want, you’re probably not going to get it.
When we make goals or think about what our dreams are, the more specific we can be, the more likely we will be to achieve them.
Or, to quote Zig Ziglar, “If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time.”
You better believe the next time my wife asks if I want her to bring me something home for dinner, I’m going to know exactly what I want and exactly where to order it from. In fact, I’ll probably even go a step further and call the order in myself!
Here’s to being crystal clear on the specific details of our goals and dreams going into 2019!
